This is a tip on how to find center on a piece of round stock without special measuring devices. I realize most people do not own a mill, however most own a drill press. This will not work for mill spec work, but for most of our work it’s plenty close. I use it all the time.
Materials
- Pointer (pictured)
- Scale
- Mini bubble level
Instructions
- Move the vise till everything is level and you have center. If you don’t have a mini level, you can get close enough by “eye balling” it level to the vise.
- Clamp in place and drill or machine.
- Always use a center drill to start your hole, then your drill size.
